Jun LUO  Associate Professor

Scientific Profile

Dr Luo completed both his undergraduate and PhD educations at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University. Then, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Chemistry Department of Warwick University (2006-2007) and a research fellow in Materials Department of Oxford University (2007-2011), UK. In 2011 he joined Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University. Dr Luo has developed a novel method to fabricate ordered arrays of nanowire/tube heterojunctions and demonstrated the structure-property relationship in some of the heterojunctions by electron microscopy and electrical measurement. He has also developed some proper approaches to analyze the chiralities of multi-walled carbon nanotubes and clarified some confusions in this field. He has clarified and proved the imaging mechanism of individual single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) in scanning electron microscope and measured the secondary electron emission properties of individual SWNTs and graphene for the first time. It is found that the secondary electron yield of SWNTs is ulatrhigh, while that of graphene is ultralow. His current researches involve fabrication, structural characterization, property measurement and analysis of nanotubes, nanowires and graphenes as well as their nanodevices for electronics, mechanics and energy conversion.
