Tsinghua-IBM 100x100 Challenge

2011-03-03

The Tsinghua-IBM 100x100 Challenge enables Tsinghua University students, faculty and alumni of Tsinghua, as well as staff of IBM, to collaborate together online for a scientific project that could make a big difference to the quality of life for millions of people in China and around the world. The Tsinghua-IBM 100x100 Challenge will run during 2011, in celebration of the 100 year anniversaries of both Tsinghua and IBM, with the goal of involving more than 100x100=10,000 people. Indeed, the challenge is open to anyone who wants to contribute to this good cause.

With just a few clicks, it is possible for anyone to join the C4CW project online, and start contributing time on their laptop or desktop computer to the project. The software works in the background, while a person is writing email or surfing the web. It is completely safe – IBM professionals have put it through an exhaustive security audit – and it does not bother the user in any way. Over the last five years, more than a million people have downloaded similar software to help hundreds of science projects, and many thousands of volunteers are in China. But C4CW is the first project of this kind led by Chinese scientists.
